CASA DE COLORES' owner Alberto Cruz Lazo,
a weaver himself, comes from a family of ten weavers descendant from the Zapotec Indians of Oaxaca.
Alberto's Oaxacan rugs are woven by family members high in the mountains between Mexico City and
Guatemala and shipped directly to him here in Ensenada. His Brother Fidel, in 1998 won national recognition
in Mexico City for his weaving ability. Alberto's vividly colored rugs are made from natural sheep wool and colored
with natural fruit and vegetable dyes and woven on looms built by his grandfathers and their grandfathers.
